OPTODYNE ANNOUNCES ISO/IEC 17025 ACCREDITATION Laboratory Procedures and Quality System Conformance. COMPTON, CA—JUNE 3, 2001—Optodyne Inc., the leader in laser measurement, calibration and compensation systems, today has announced that it has received ISO/IEC 17025 accreditation, formerly known as ISO 25.  Accreditation to ISO/IEC 17025 requires a quality system similar to ISO 9000, plus adequate equipment to perform testing and calibration tasks, as well as personnel competent to perform the testing and calibration.  The difference between ISO/IEC 17025 and ISO 9000 is that ISO/IEC 17025 recognizes laboratory and personnel competence, as well as conformance to a quality system.   “We are one of a very few companies in the U.S. that have received ISO/IEC 17025 accreditation, distinguishing our equipment and personnel as having met the highest international standards available,” said Charles Wang, Ph.D.  “Manufacturers and testing services are assured that our products have been made, tested and calibrated with accredited equipment and personnel.” Driving the need for an international testing and calibration laboratory accreditation are automotive industry requirements that sub-tier manufacturers test their products with accredited laboratories and adoption of the Fastener Quality Act.  ISO/IEC 17025 requires that its assessors are peers in the specific laboratory technology they will be evaluating.  ISO/IEC 17025 assessors must have relevant technical knowledge, including a technical degree, practical experience and/or quality-system training.  Also, ISO/IEC 17025 assessors can only make evaluations of their specific area of expertise.   For example, a calibration assessor can only assess a calibration facility.
