OPTODYNEs SD-500 Volumetric Calibration Package, (Patent Pending) is an add-on package to OPTODYNEs MCV-500, Linear-Machine Calibration System.The combined system provides a rapid and efficient way of measuring a machines volumetric accuracy over the working volume. The system can be used to calibrate CNC machine tools, and CMMs (Coordinate Measuring Machines). Based on the Laser Doppler Displacement Meter (LDDM) technology, and the Vector measurement technique, the volumetric errors including three displacement errors, six straightness errors, and three squareness errors can be measured in hours instead of in days required using conventional techniques. The performance of a machine tool is determined by the volumetric accuracy. With many of the CNC controls available today, the measured volumetric errors can be used to improve the machine accuracy by volumetric compensation (straightness compensation, cross compensation or sag compensation etc).
